PenPals from Andover Central School

Great excitement! We had our first letters from our pen pals. Their school is Andover Central School in New York State, USA. We have written back with a brief introduction sheet and photo. We look forward to hearing from them again.

NZ Book Week

We have had a very busy week celebrating NZ book Week. We had two visiting authors come and talk to the children about their inspiration and the writing process. The children shared their favourite books and we wrote a school wide continuous story which will be based in the library. We ended the week with a parade - we dressed as a character from a book. Here are some examples of costumes from Super Six kids.

Amazing Ariah

When I was a shark I got caught in a net and the people caught me. They took one of my fins and then they threw me back into the water.

Jelly Jade

I am going to Rotorua. It is stinky but I've never been there. Once my dad said my brother fall asleep in the car and when he woke up he said "Poohy, who farted?"

Fabulous Finn

In the weekend I went to the Warehouse and I got a new schoolbag. Then I went to the beach and I went snorkelling and I got some pipis.

Kind Kristel

In the weekend I went to the shop and we bought some new clothes. I like my cardigan the best.

Great Garth

One day I will have a party at my house and I will have goody bags and I will have treats.

Marvellous Mathew

In the weekend I went fishing and I saw a whale shark. It was big and I touched it and I went snorkelling. I caught a crayfish. It was big!

Emma's Writing

Queen's Birthday Weekend
On Queen's Birthday Weekend Madison came over to play. We got to hold the bunnies, then we got to have a large chocolate cookie that my Dad made. We had juice and popcorn too. We had my sister's big bunny out and some little bunnies too. We laughed and we laughed with the baby bunnies. We loved it so much that we laughed harder than ever. I liked it.

Queen's Birthday Weekend
On the Queen's birthday I found out that I am going to Malaysia on the 8th of June. I am going tramping and we might see that monkey that was looking in the camera on room 6's activ board. We are going to a place called turtle island and we get to see the turtles lay their eggs and their eggs hatch. I don't know how long I will be there for though.

Frogtastic

We made frog puppets and created role plays for them. We gave our frogs names and made up stories about them. We told these stories to each other using our puppets.
It was frogtastic fun!

Jaime Rides on a Helicopter

In the holidays we went for a helicopter ride and it was fun. I was in the helicopter and my brother Matt was in the front with Mike. Mike was the pilot. Mum was in the back and Dad was to. My tummy was feeling funny when he turned sideways. It was fun!

Book Review - Down the Back of the Chair

Down the Back of the Chair is about a chair and heaps of stuff in it. A car, and a sack are some of the things. My favourite part is when the man pulls all the different things out of the chair.

Margaret Mahy uses rhyming and funny words. The pictures are funny and have cool patterns. My star rating is 5 out of 5.
I think children age 2 to 100 would enjoy this book.
Thank you for reading my book review.

Where did our frogs come from?

Georgia brought a jar with some tadpoles to school. We decided to keep the tadpoles and raise them to froglets. Georgia found the tadpoles in the drain by her house. Jades Grandma lives next door to Georgia so Jade also had a real interest in the tadpoles. We decided to study frogs in more detail and all of the children in Super Six, as well as many others throughout the school would observe the tadpoles everyday - discussing the changes they were seeing. We also did some research on frog habitat, food webs and interdependence.

Georgia's and Jade's Report on Our Class Frogs

We found four tadpoles. We brought them to school into super six. But one died because somebody over fed it. We fed them gold fish food. They were golden bell frogs. They came to New Zealand from Australia 101 years ago. They like to live near rocks and ponds.
We found them in the drain.
The place was a beautiful
sight. The frogs were AMAZING
TO LOOK AT.
We had three tadpoles in our class. We named them Whale, Speedy and Bubbles. We released the one which was called Whale first. Then we released
Speedy and Bubbles. It is important to let the froglets go in the place that you found them as tadpoles.

Our tadpoles were funny. One sat on the rock. One sat on Jade’s finger. They were slimy and slippery. The water was filled with bugs. Our goldfish bowl had a rock in it for the froglets to sit on. It was cool. The tadpoles and froglets were looking at the activ board. The tadpoles and froglets looked like they were happy and they were swimming as fast as a dolphin. They were jumping as high as a dolphin too.
Frogs and tadpoles DON’T LIKE rats or birds, cats or dogs and they don’t like sprays and poisons. Lots of their homes are being used up and they don’t have anywhere to live.

We brainstormed possibilities for elephants using our buses. Double click on the picture to have a bigger viewing window to read our ideas.
